The last 24 hours for the UFC has presented an array of mixed emotions from fans, fighters, and since then has either been torched for questionable decisions or praised for the most stacked card in the history of the sport
Eddie Alvarez vs Conor McGregor
The UFC officially confirmed that Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor will headline the UFC 205 card. The first ever fight in New York City at Madison Square Garden will be a historic night, along with Conor McGregor getting the opportunity to fight for the lightweight belt and possibly be the first ever fighter to hold two belts in two different weight classes.
Eddie Alvarez is now tasked with the most important fight of his career, and first title defense in his home state of New York. Alvarez has made it clear that he is only interested in “money fights” that being McGregor, now he can put his money where his mouth is come Nov 10.
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Michael Johnson
Khabib Nurmagomedov was in turmoil after he found out the news that his division champion Eddie Alvarez would be defending his belt against Conor McGregor. Khabib made it clear that both fighters were afraid of him and was disappointed in Dana White’s decision.
Initial reports from mmafighting.com broke the news that Nurmagomedov will be fighting Michael Johnson, later to be officially confirmed by the UFC. As you can see, to Khabib’s distress he did not waste anytime getting back into the octagon.
Michael Johnson recently came off a vicious knockout win over lightweight stand out Dustin Porier and now has earned himself a one way ticket to Madison Square Garden.
UFC 205 Press Conference
If only the press conference could host the entire UFC 205 card. The fighters that were in attendance did not disappoint at all, recalling hilarious moments, and the presser being taken over by the notorious one himself. The champions on the card were also in attendance; Tyron Woodley – Eddie Alvarez – Conor McGregor – Joanna jedrzejczyk.
The crowd erupted every time a fighter was given a question and when Dana announced that #TeamKhabib is on the card as well, let’s just say the roof was on fire.
Cowboy Cerrone had some choice of words directed to McGregor as did Jeremy Stephens but Conor stole the show, why am I not surprised.
Jose Aldo request release from UFC
After the announcement of Alvarez – McGregor, Jose Aldo was left disrespected where he voiced his opinion on what has become of the UFC and the decision to bypass him for the third time to rematch Conor McGregor.
Can you blame him for wanting to request his termination from the promotion? I guess not, he did his part after beating Frankie Edgar for the Interim belt which has no meaning. Recent reports also state that Aldo not only intends to relieve himself from the UFC but retire from the sport itself. If so, this will be a topic to talk about for the coming weeks.
Ronda Rousey want’s to fight Cris Cyborg
Dana White started a frenzy when saying “Ronda Rousey wants to fight Cris Cyborg and doesn’t mind 140”. To hear Dana White say that is music to our ears. This may be the last shot that we have at a Cyborg – Rousey showdown and for good measures Dana has to keep the topic lingering.
Cris Cyborg who is now 2-0 in the UFC, has made it clear her only interests is in 140lb catchweight superfights and to get her hands on her rival; Ronda Rousey. ‘Cyborg’ has comeback to say let’s fight super bowl weekend.
Rousey is slated to fight current champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 and if all goes well maybe we might see a potential bout between the two biggest draws in wmma (Women-Mixed-Martial-Arts).
