Shevchenko has come out and said that Julianna Pena is trying to “escape a fight against her”
It’s almost as if Julianna Pena has nowhere else to go and is left with no option but to go with her best bet and take on the reported bout against Valentina Shevchenko in New York City. Pena has suggested that she may play the waiting game but, not everybody is a Tyron Woodley.
Julianna Pena (9-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC), has become a rising star since winning the Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale: Team Rousey vs Tate. I guess the question Julianna Pena continues to get asked is “do you think you’re next against Amanda Nunes. (Pena) is the clear favorite in the clustered bantamweight division and to do what she has done in a talented division, front-runner anybody?
Why the halt for any contender to get a shot at Nunes? Well, Ronda Rousey that’s why. Rousey is reportedly set to make her return on the UFC 207 card in Las Vegas, NV. Dana White did propose that upon her return she would be given an immediate rematch.
Valentina Shevchenko (13-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC), has her fair share of notable wins, picking apart Holly Holm on UFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Shevchenko, and now she wants more as she should. Shevchenko has come out and said that Julianna Pena is trying to “escape a fight against her” once the report broke that Pena has shied away from a contract signing.
UFC rankings place Shevchenko at #3 and Pena #5, one (many) could argue about why Shevchenko is ranked ahead of Pena but then again it’s all about who you’ve beaten and maybe the holly holm win was more significant that Pena defeating Zingano.
