How long can Eddie Alvarez keep this up and how is Khabib holding up? Well, he looks just fine; interacting with fans as usual and the eagle continues to showcase his charisma in times of distress.
The UFC has a star awaiting his time to embark his name as a headliner and his name is Khabib Nurmagomedov (23-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC). Remember the Reebok Russia signing, Khabib didn’t last 30 minute in there and for safety measures it was cancelled. Khabib the Dagestan, Russia native has cemented himself as “the” fighter of Russia and has become a big draw in international venues.
So what’s the deal with Eddie Alvarez (28-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC)? It was clear from day one that after defeating Rafael Dos Anjos for the Lightweight belt that Alvarez wanted the so-called “money fights” in which he referred to Conor (McGregor). So does the UFC stall a 3rd division just for Conor McGregor or at least make an effort to reward deserving fighters. Well, it seems that Eddie’s wish is a no go due to McGregor and teams complications as well as Dana White giving his dose on twitter.
The more Eddie stalls the worse it gets for his reputation. This is the fight business and of all people Eddie should know that taking the next man up is the way to go but, the trend has begun to shift towards money fights. Khabib posted images of a signed UFC 205 and 206 contracts to fight Eddie Alvarez, he has yet to return the favor.
The UFC 205 contract has reportedly passed its deadline and is now scrapped, leaving UFC 206 in Toronto as an option.
